Broward Schools Essay Contest
LYCSF Learn to Sail Summer Scholarship Essay Contest is only available (at this time) at a few elementary schools in Broward County for 2nd and 3rd grade students. Parents or children interested in applying must inquire with their school/2nd and 3rd grade teachers to see if they are part of the essay contest program. For schools that are participating, the deadline for essays is April 10 for 2025.
School children are asked to create a vision of learning to sail “Why I want to learn to Sail” and can make that vision become a reality through the program. If selected, parents can choose from available dates for Sailing Summer Camp. Attached is the 2025 information about the program. If you have further questions, please contact, grants@lycsf.org

Gabriel Blandon is a 14-year-old Fort Lauderdale High School student who began sailing at LYC as a fifth grader, when he received a scholarship for participating in the LYCSF Summer camp essay contest. He is a brilliant young man who enjoys reading and playing soccer when he’s not sailing. Gabriel also finds time to volunteer with local non-profit cultural and community organizations. He has prospects of one day sailing around the world, which he’ll be able to realize, thanks to the ongoing support of the Foundation and his family, and especially his grandpa who first introduced him to sailing. This sport brings him much joy and pride, knowing he is doing something he’s good at and can one day share with others.
