The Inaugural Lang Ryder Hot Shot Award Winner is Junior Sailor Cody Roe!

In March of 2023, The Lauderdale Yacht Club Sailing Foundation (LYCSF) lost a dear friend and board member Lang Ryder.  Lang was a good friend to so many and a dedicated leader in so many ways including to the LYCSF. His knowledge and leadership were blessings to all who knew him and his sailing, boating and anything water related was his passion. In his memory, the foundation board created the LANG RYDER HOT SHOT AWARD.

This award will be given at most annually, to a junior sailor in the Lauderdale Yacht Club Sailing program who has shown potential to be a next level, Hot Shot racer. Lang loved to use the term Hot Shot to describe young sailors who were up and coming, talented and showed significant leadership skills and potential. The winner will receive scholarship money towards sailing and a signature Lang Ryder shirt.

To this end, the Lauderdale Yacht Club Sailing Foundation and the Ryder Family were proud to announce the first recipient of the Lang Ryder Hot Shot Award is Cody Roe. Cody, a 17-year-old who attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School, is an exceptional sailor who has traveled the world representing Fort Lauderdale and LYC. He is well liked by his peers and is a true Hot Shot in memory of Lang Ryder. Cody started sailing at the age of 7 and has been a LYCSF recipient over the years.

The Ryder family is in full support and involved in the creation of the tribute award. They even assist in the selection of the award recipients. In fact, Karl Ryder has assumed his father’s position on the LYCSF board.
