You are invited to stay home, put your feet up, order out, watch you favorite movie, not get dressed up and teach a child to sail this summer.
Help the LYC Sailing Foundation give children a lifetime experience of learning to sail this summer. Let them experience the thrill of skippering their own boat. Share with them the gift of independence, self-reliance, self respect and a sense of accomplishment.
There will not be a speaker, any fancy presentation or gourmet dinner. Stay home, relax and relish the knowledge that you are helping a child’s future by giving the gift of learn-ing to sail and the lifetime of boating that will follow.
Please RSVP by June 15, 2016
Many of the LYCSF Sailing Scholarships are awarded based on essay contests in local schools. Please enjoy the excerpts from a few of the essay’s below. The LYC Sailing Foundation also helps teach children to sail by sponsoring participants in the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Learn to Sail Program.
“Why I want to learn to Sail”
“‘Splash’ The waves are pounding against the ship as if they were anxious to push it forward. I want to learn to sail because it would be nice to explore the world and be safe at the same time.”
“Oh the joy of the salty sea smell and the wind blowing through your hair. This is what sailing is like. Well, so I have heard.”
“Imagine white sails blowing against a clear sky, the brisk feel of the wind on your face and the gentle motions of the boat slicing through the water! Those are just a couple of reasons why I want to learn to sail.”
“I’d want to learn to sail for the joy of the shining sun beaming on me, for the wind and the nice cool breeze whipping through my hair and the sails, and for the relaxing motion of the water.”
