Heritage Breeds the Future

The Lauderdale Yacht Club Sailing Foundation (LYCSF) is dedicated to favorably impacting the lives of young people from all social and economic situations through the sport of sailing.

The focus is primarily on children between the ages of eight and eighteen, teaching valuable life lessons by educating them about sailing and boating including, weather, boating safety, knot tying, sea conditions, seamanship, maritime “rules of the road”, first aid, spatial and mathematic skills and related subjects.

The participants in the Foundation’s programs will also be instructed about community and family involvement, team participation, decision making alternatives, responsibility and respect for others. The mission of the Foundation shall be to provide support, education, advocacy, leadership and assistance to the children of South Florida.

The Lauderdale Yacht Club Sailing Foundation is a 501 (c ) (3) charitable organization that awards “Learn to Sail” scholarships and competitive sailing “grants” to children that otherwise would not have the opportunity to be part of a sailing and boating program or advance their sailing and boating skills.

For the many juniors who continue to pursue their sailing goals through their high school years, the sport has opened doors to entrance into many of the country’s top universities. Beyond that, some have taken it to the Olympic level.

The Rhode Island scholar and author George William Curtis wrote, “It is not the ship so much as skillful sailing that assures a prosperous voyage.” These sentiments express the goals of the Sailing Foundation in the support of the youth of the community. Boys and Girls develop skills leading them on a lifelong journey of self-awareness and fulfillment.

The future of boating needs the continued support of individual and corporate sponsors to help instill these valuable lessons in the youth of the community at a young age.
